Oscars Challenge Recap Part 1: Hits and Misses

So I was able to complete 10 movies so far. Still, a lot more to go but progress is progress so I will just do a simple recap on some of the hits and misses and maybe my top 5 so far.

Here are those that I have watched so far and which Academy Awards they won Best Picture:

  1. Annie Hall (1977) - 51st

  2. Kramer vs Kramer (1979) - 53rd

  3. American Beauty (1999) - 72nd

  4. You Can't Take It With You (1938) - 11th

  5. Slumdog Millionaire (2008) - 81st

  6. Amadeus (1984) - 57th

  7. Rain Man (1988) - 61st

  8. Argo (2012) - 85th

  9. Hamlet (1948) - 21st

  10. No Country For Old Men (2007) - 80th

Definitely, No Country For Old Men and Amadeus came out as surprising to me. I mean I didn't expect them to be good but really they delivered more than what I hoped for. Brilliant writing, acting, and cinematography.

Maybe out of all the 10 just Hamlet I think. But it is more personal since I had real trouble understanding the dialogue, especially on some important parts. Maybe if they changed it to a more modernized English I would really appreciate it.

Top 5 Picks:

  1. No Country For Old Men

  2. Amadeus

  3. Rain Man

  4. American Beauty

  5. You Can't Take It With You

I will do the same post after I watched the next 11th to 20th films.
